A Rewilding Journey:

Rewilding the World and Ourselves

A weeklong workshop with

Alan Watson Featherstone & Pupak Haghighi

Glen Affric, Scottish Highlands

28 October – 4 November 2023

Scots pines & birches in early autumn colour, with morning mist over Loch Beinn a’ Mheadhoin in Glen Affric.

This workshop is being held for people who have a serious interest in rewilding and are keen to make that a focus of practical work in their lives. It offers both an in depth practical experience of rewilding in action and a personal journey of discovery to find our individual power to make a real and lasting positive difference in the world. The week will include an opportunity to connect deeply with wild Nature in the Caledonian Forest, carrying out some practical ecological restoration work, visits to sites that show the dramatic results of rewilding, an exploration of how to initiate and develop a rewilding project and the sharing of practical techniques and tools to turn our personal visions and dreams into successful results. It will draw on Alan’s personal experience from founding Trees for Life more than 30 years ago and developing it into the highly-effective and award-winning conservation charity it has become, and Pupak’s work to establish a rewilding project in the Fertile Crescent area of the Middle East.

If you feel called to set up or develop a rewilding project in your local area (or for an ecosystem that you care deeply about) and want to know how go about that, this workshop is designed for you! If you are already involved with, or want to initiate, a rewilding project, please bring information and details with you, as there will be an opportunity to engage with that during the week. We also welcome any musical instruments, for evenings in the bothy.

Alan Watson Featherstone is an inspirational public speaker, ecologist, nature photographer and writer based in the Findhorn Community in the northeast of Scotland. In 1986 he founded Trees for Life, and led the charity for the next 30 years as it became the leading organisation working to restore the Caledonian Forest in the Highlands. He has given presentations and workshops in more than 20 countries and is currently working on a book project about the endangered Araucaria (monkey puzzle tree) forests of Chile and Argentina.

Pupak Haghighi is the founder of Trees for Hope, a Scottish charity whose purpose is to rewild the Fertile Crescent. She is also a visual artist and storyteller. Her current project in Iran, Soil & Soul Alchemy, involves transforming organic wastes into rich and fertile compost. She is Alan’s life partner.

Practical details about the workshop are available here. Bookings and payment for the workshop can be made here.
