The Importance of Aspen in restoring the Caledonian Forest

The Importance of Aspen in restoring the Caledonian Forest

Aspen is a scarce species in the Caledonian Forest, but it supports a unique range of associated biodiversity, including rare invertebrates, special lichens and mosses, and is also an important winter food for the European beaver, which has recently been returned to Scotland.

This wide ranging talk provides extensive details about the aspen tree and the life it supports, as well as the unique challenges it has in becoming re-established in areas where it has been lost. The talk is illustrated with over 60 slides featuring superb high quality photographs that bring this special component of the forest to life.

If you would like me to give this talk to a group or at an event, please contact me.

This was the view from the front door of my house at Findhorn on 3rd December 2019: a crow (Corvus corone) sitting in a tree at sunset, with the moon visible amongst pink-coloured clouds behind.

The effects of #Climatebreakdown are pervasive & impact all parts of the planet. The radical change required now is creating a new human culture that is based not on the madness of endless economic growth, but the reality of all life being interconnected. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-50661448
